Dave Schryver Speaks to Kansas

On April 29, APGA’s President and CEO, Dave Schryver, gave a presentation on high natural gas prices to the Kansas Municipal Utilities (KMU) Conference, which was held in Wichita, Kan. KMU was formed in 1928 and currently represents 170 municipal electric, natural gas, water and wastewater utilities throughout the state. Other speakers at the conference included Sue Kelly, Vice President for Policy Analysis and General Counsel for the American Public Power Association, and Brian Moline, Chairman of the Kansas Corporation Commission.

Mr. Schryver’s presentation provided an overview of the increase in natural gas prices over the past several years and discussed the impacts these increases have had upon consumers, manufacturing companies and the economy as a whole. He also discussed the role various factors, such as supply and demand, continue to play in natural gas prices. Lastly, he updated attendees on APGA’s market transparency efforts and summarized legislative language that APGA has developed that would provide greater transparency in the over-the-counter derivatives market.

Often, APGA staff speaks at various state association meetings on legislative, regulatory and operational issues. This is an excellent opportunity for APGA staff to meet with its membership to discuss issues facing those systems and how APGA may better serve their interests.
