As a small public gas system, the community of systems joined together through APGA, provides me with an abundant amount of resources and contacts that […] I would otherwise not have access to or resources to acquire.

Priorities & Positions

APGA advocates on behalf of America’s publicly owned natural gas utilities on federal legislative and regulatory issues impacting the delivery and use of natural gas in homes and businesses. To learn more about APGA's advocacy priorities, click the topics below.

Affordability

Natural gas provides a reliable and cost-effective energy source for American families and businesses due to its domestic abundance and the efficiency of directly using natural gas in homes and businesses. Consequently, APGA advocates for policies that strive to keep energy costs low, such as the funding of programs like LIHEAP and ensuring accountability of established pipeline rates at FERC.

Consumer Choice

APGA supports building and appliance energy efficiency standards that are grounded in sound science, transparent analysis, and economic justification. We believe that standards should enhance, not limit, consumer energy choices while also improving energy efficiency in a practical and cost-effective manner.

Safety & Reliability

America’s public gas utilities are committed to maintaining and enhancing the safety of their systems by modernizing infrastructure, incorporating industry-leading practices, employing skilled and knowledgeable employees and contractors, and engaging with the public on natural gas safety. APGA engages on behalf of its members in activities such as the Pipeline Safety Reauthorization, PHMSA Advisory Bulletins, and federal rulemaking activities. APGA collaborates with federal policymakers to ensure any changes to safety regulations are technically feasible, reasonable, cost-effective, and practical.
