APGA Congratulates New Cabinet Members
Washington, D.C. (February 2, 2021) – The American Public Gas Association (APGA), representing more than 700 local, municipally-owned natural gas systems in 38 states, issued the following statement in response to the confirmations of the Secretary for the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Secretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS):
“APGA congratulates Peter Buttigieg on his confirmation as Transportation Secretary. APGA looks forward to working with Secretary Buttigieg to advance our DOT advocacy priorities, including:
· Practical and cost-effective implementation of recently passed pipeline safety reauthorization laws by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA);
· Continued investment in the replacement and maintenance of the nation’s pipeline infrastructure with sensible permitting policies, so as to ensure sustained safe operations and reliable delivery of natural gas to customers; and
· Growth and development of the natural gas vehicle (NGV) industry as a key alternative fuel option for businesses and consumers.
APGA also extends its congratulations to Alejandro Mayorkas on his confirmation as Homeland Security Secretary. APGA’s members operate critical infrastructure across the U.S. that provides energy to many American homes, businesses and industry – central to the safety and wellbeing of all our communities. We look forward to collaborating with Secretary Mayorkas and his team to:
- Ensure our country’s infrastructure is protected, both from physical and cyber security threats; and
- Continue our effective collaboration via resource development, shared information and member engagement with DHS’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) as well as the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) under the new leadership of Secretary Mayorkas.
APGA again congratulates the newly confirmed Secretaries Buttigieg and Mayorkas. We look forward to engaging with their offices and remain committed to working with the entire Biden Administration to advance our advocacy priorities and achieve critical energy goals.”
