April 8 2021 - APGA Signs All-Parties Support Letter for FY22

04-22-2021 06:34 PM

APGA, in collaboration with the National Energy and Utility Affordability Coalition (NEUAC), signed on to a letter sent to the Congressional Appropriations Committees. The all-parties letter has been many weeks in the making, and it will go a long way in encouraging Congress to defend and maximize funding for fiscal year 2022 (FY22) of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). This critical, life-saving program targets and serves the most vulnerable – including older Americans, individuals with disabilities, and children.

With all that is still facing our country, utility debt grows, and the threat of energy insecurity looms for millions of American families who could afford their bills just one year ago. Many hardworking people lost one or more sources of income because of the pandemic and now, are at risk of utility disconnection. LIHEAP has reliably and effectively stabilized families and provided consistent benefits that relieve the energy burden of those most in need for nearly 40 years. With Congress fulfilling this request to maintain current funding levels and possibly expand the program, LIHEAP will continue to support those in need of energy assistance. Along with APGA, many members signed the letter individually:

  • Austin Utilities
  • Borough of Chambersburg
  • City of Fremont
  • City of Tallahassee
  • City of Wahoo Utilities
  • Colorado Springs Utilities
  • CPS Energy
  • Elk River Public Utility District
  • Falls City Utilities
  • Huntsville Utilities
  • Hutchinson Utilities Commission
  • Illinois Municipal Utilities Association
  • Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities
  • Kansas Municipal Utilities
  • Memphis Light, Gas, & Water
  • Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association
  • Missouri Association of Municipal Utilities
  • Nebraska Municipal Power Pool (NMPP Energy)
  • Oklahoma Gas Association
  • Philadelphia Gas Works
  • Pryor Municipal Utility Board
