This week, APGA staff traveled to Houston, TX, to participate in the Pipeline Leadership Conference. This event includes a variety of panels and speakers specifically chosen to make visible innovation, leadership effort, and transformation through people, process, and practice. Attendees include leaders from pipeline operators and local distribution companies as well as service companies, like engineering and contracting firms plus select equipment manufacturers. This is the event's seventh year, which is also an opportunity to recognize a single company or individual with the “Pipeline Leadership Award.”

APGA staff took part in two panels. During the first panel titled "Policy Changes in a New Era of Pipeline Development," APGA staff engaged in a discussion on regulatory challenges and opportunities for public natural gas utilities, including potential future use of renewable natural gas and hydrogen. There was also discussion on APGA member efforts to comply with leak detection mandates and recognition of the upcoming work to replace leak-prone pipe using recently granted funds from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. APGA staff shared APGA members' commitment to environmental stewardship during the second panel titled “Socially Responsible Energy Production & Transportation” which focused on how public natural gas utilities strive to be practical environmentalists.

Both panels afforded good discussion between APGA staff and the industry, and the trade association appreciates this opportunity and looks forward to participating in the future.
