APGA Members Support Maximized Funding for LIHEAP

In March, a number of APGA members signed on to the “all parties letter,” an effort led by the National Energy and Utility Affordability Coalition (NEUAC) and sent to the Congressional Appropriations Committee. APGA is grateful for those public gas utilities that took time to engage their policymakers by signing.  Through this correspondence, the signatories signify their support for maximized funding for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) in fiscal year 2024.

LIHEAP provides financial assistance to low-income individuals and families to cover utility bills, as well as weatherization and minor home repairs. This program is critical to ensure energy access for all Americans.

NEUAC and the signers urge Congress to consider the consequences of extreme temperatures and commodity price increases on family budgets. Currently, only 16 percent of eligible households are regularly supported by LIHEAP. To protect households that might otherwise be forced to choose between heating their homes and buying groceries, the letter highlighted the need for more LIHEAP funding.
