APGA Holds Legislative Summit on Capitol Hill

APGA members joined the association in Washington, D.C., this week for the APGA 2022 Legislative Summit. Public natural gas systems from many different states took on an important role during the week as advocates for the work done every day to provide American communities with safe, clean, and reliable energy. Whether virtual or in-person, members had productive meetings with their representatives on Capitol Hill.

APGA’s primary focus this year was urging Senators and members of Congress to support legislation that preserves direct use, protects gas consumers during emergencies, gives the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission refund authority in gas rate cases, and prioritizes cybersecurity and reliability without overly burdensome new regulations.

APGA staff consistently advocate for members’ needs in Washington, D.C. It is APGA members, however, who are the most powerful voice for public gas systems. APGA member systems are vital parts of their communities, providing energy to the taxpayers who elect and empower legislators. Lawmakers want to hear personal stories from APGA members and learn about how policies being made in D.C. impact the people who live in their states and districts.

If you participated in the Legislative Summit and had a positive experience, please consider joining APGA’s Legislative Subcommittee. Political advocacy does not have to be a once-a-year activity. APGA shares ways to participate in the policymaking process all year round, and the more engaged members are, the greater our impact.
