Comments on Interconnection of Large Loads to the Interstate (Electric) Transmission System (November 20, 2025)

Acting on a , the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued a Notice Inviting Comments on October 27, 2025, to gather input on a proposed rulemaking aimed at creating a clear and efficient process for connecting large electric loads to the interstate transmission system. APGA submitted comments requesting that FERC assess how these large loads interconnect with the natural gas transmission system. APGA highlighted that many of these high-demand facilities rely on natural gas-fired generation, which draws from interstate pipelines regulated by FERC, creating implications for interstate commerce and system reliability. Increased demand could strain pipeline capacity and jeopardize public gas utilities’ ability to serve residential and commercial customers reliably and affordably. APGA stressed that any policy changes should protect public gas utilities’ transportation rights and ensure coordinated, thoughtful planning. APGA will keep members updated on the path forward, as Secretary Wright has requested FERC take “final action” by April 30, 2026.
