Yellow CSST Safety Campaign

The National Association of State Fire Marshalls (NASFM) is partnering with the Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing (CSST) manufactures to launch a Yellow CSST Safety campaign.  The effort is designed to bring awareness to homeowners of the safety improvement of bringing legacy Yellow CSST gas piping installations up to current installation standards.  The improvement pertains to a direct-bonding requirement that went into effect in new construction between 2006 and 2011, depending on location.  The campaign seeks to bring the awareness of this installation safety improvement to installations that were completed prior to the code change, and as early as 1990. 

Yellow CSST is installed in approximately seven million homes in the U.S., and well over half of those installations were completed prior to the direct-bonding safety update to manufactures instructions, and fuel gas codes.   In an effort to raise awareness for the yellow CSST safety campaign, last year, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution S.RES.483, calling on state regulatory bodies with authority over building codes to find ways to bring awareness to home owners for proper bonding of yellow CSST. The Congressional Fire Service Institute (CFSI) also passed a yellow CSST Safety Resolution.
