2014 APGA Correspondence

April 7, 2014 - American Public Gas Association (APGA) sent a letter to House Energy and Power Subcommittee Chairman Whitfield (R-Ky.) and Ranking Member Rush (D-Ill.) opposing legislation introduced by Representative Gardner (R-Colo.) titled The Domestic Prosperity and Global Freedom Act (H.R. 6), which would grant free trade agreement status (FTA) for natural gas to all members of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

April 3, 2014 - APGA joined the American Gas Association, National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, and several other groups in a comment letter to the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in response to a notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPR) on various issues related to physical commodity activities conducted by financial holding companies and the restrictions imposed on these activities.

April 2, 2014 - APGA sent letters to to the Chairmen and Ranking Members of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources and the House Committee on Energy and Commerce urging them to review the recently released Natural Gas Supply Association (NGSA) study, which found that interstate natural gas pipelines overcharged consumers by $2.7 billion from 2008 to 2012, and to address this urgent problem by passing legislation to amend Section 5 of the Natural Gas Act (NGA). March 20, 2014 - APGA sent a letter to Representatives Graves & Terry in support their three pro-natural gas vehicle bills: H.R. 3937, H.R. 3938, H.R. 3940. These three pieces of legislation will remove significant barriers to the transition of the long-haul trucking market to natural gas.

March 12, 2014 - APGA sent a letter to Senator Barrasso to voice opposition to his proposed amendments to the Ukraine Aid package that would expedite the export of liquified natural gas (LNG) to Ukraine, all members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and other countries. Though these amendments are intended to reduce the dependence of these countries on Russian natural gas by granting them free trade agreement (FTA) status with respect to natural gas, there is no guarantee that U.S. gas will be sold to any of the intended recipients. February 20, 2014 - APGA sent a letter to Acting Chair Mark Wetjen of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) asking that the commission look into the 10 percent price spike in the February 2014 New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) Henry Hub contract, which occurred in the final hours of trading on the contract on January 29, 2014. January 31, 2014 - Joint association letter to Federal Reserve System, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and Office of the Comptroller of the Currency commenting on proposed October 2013 rule which incorporates certain international capital standards for banking institution as proposed by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) - Liquidity Coverage Ratio: Liquidity Risk Measurement, Standards, and Monitoring Federal Reserve System [Docket ID OCC-2013-0016]. 2013 APGA Correspondence

November 26, 2013 - APGA joined the American Public Power Association, Industrial Energy Consumers of America and other groups in a letter to President Obama that addresses vacancies on the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Specifically, the letter addresses the vacancy that will soon be created with the departure of Commissioner Chilton and asks the President to appoint an individual that “ has an expertise in all of the markets the CFTC regulates, including and especially the commodity futures, options and swaps markets; and that fully understands the importance of Dodd-Frank Act reforms to commodity end-users, consumers and the broader economy. November 21, 2013 - APGA sent a letter to Senator Edward J. Markey in support of recently introduced legislation that would establish a State Revolving Loan Fund for repair and replacement of local distribution company (LDC) pipelines. Click to read the full letter.

June 28, 2013 - APGA submitted comments in response to the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) comments on the changes to the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). Click to read the full letter.

June 24, 2013 - The Commodity Markets Oversight Coalition, an alliance of commodity derivatives end-users and consumers that APGA has joined, sent a letter to Senators Tom Udall and Mike Johanns of the US Senate Committee on Appropriations to urge full funding for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission at the $315 million level as requested by the administration in its Fiscal Year 2014 Budget. June 21, 2013 - APGA sent letters in strong support of the recently introduced legislation, the "LNG Excise Tax Equalization Act of 2013" (S.1103/H.R. 2202), that would level the playing field for natural gas by changing the excise tax calculation on liquefied natural gas (LNG) from a volumetric calculation to one based on the fuel's energy content. April 8, 2013 - APGA signed on to a letter for increased research and development funding for natural gas technologies within the Fiscal Year 2014 Energy and Water Development Appropriations Bill.

April 8, 2013 - The American Public Gas Association (APGA) sent a letter to all members of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources and the House Committee on Energy and Commerce urging them to carefully review the recently released Natural Gas Supply Association (NGSA) study of interstate pipeline over-recovery titled, “Pipeline Cost Recovery Report: 32 Major Pipelines 2007-2011,” and to address the urgent need to reform Section 5 of the Natural Gas Act (NGA).  The letters were to:

January 15, 2013 - APGA sent letter on behalf of Borough of Chambersburg and IESI Corporation in support of awarding an "Act 13" for a grant for a natural gas "fast-fill" station and to convert 30 vehicles to compressed natural gas (CNG).
