Though these amendments are intended to reduce the dependence of these countries on Russian natural gas by granting them free trade agreement (FTA) status with respect to natural gas, there is no guarantee that U.S. gas will be sold to any of the intended recipients. In its letter, APGA communicates that “this legislation will fail to achieve its desired purpose of reducing Ukraine and other Eastern European nations’ dependence on Russian natural gas and will increase the price of our domestic natural gas here at home hurting homeowners’ budgets and businesses’ bottom lines.”
