Past Chairman

Fred Crabtree

Fred is the Past Chairman of the American Public Gas Association. Since 1991, Fred has served as General Manger of the Gas District Lake Apopka Natural Gas District in Winter Garden, Florida. He is now in a fourth term as an APGA Board member and has also served on APGA’s Executive Committee, IG Board, Annual Conference Committee, Awards Committee, Government Relations Committee, PGPC Committee, and the Marketing Committee.

Fred started his gas career as a Board member of the Lake Apopka Natural Gas District in November of 1979. He was elected Chairman in 1980 and served in that capacity until hired in 1991 to be the utility’s General Manger. He has served as Secretary and Chairman of the Municipal Gas Authority of Florida and has been Board member of the Florida Natural Gas Association for ten years. Fred is also active in the Florida Municipal Natural Gas Association.

Fred was elected to serve 5 terms as a city commissioner for Winter Garden. He served on the planning and zoning board prior to being elected to the city council, and has been active as a coach for Pop Warner youth football and Little League baseball. Fred and his wife Sue were the directors of the local youth center for many years. He is a member of the West Orange Scholarship Foundation which grants scholarships to graduating high school students who need financial help for college. Fred also serves as an Administrative Board member for Sun Trust Bank.

Prior to his current position, Fred managed a family-owned marine manufacturing company in Winter Garden for 26 years. Fred and Sue still own and operate Bob Kerr’s Marine Tool Company in Winter Garden. Sue and one of their children continue to manage the marine business. Fred also has two US Patents for marine service inventions.

Fred and Sue have been married for 42 years and have three children— Karen, Jim, and Andy. They are the proud grandparents of four grandchildren. In his spare time, Fred enjoys golf, woodworking, bird watching and home improvement projects.
